In a short amount of time, Taissa Farmiga has quickly established herself as one of today’s most exciting new faces on the small and big screen.
Youngest sister of Oscar® nominated actress, Vera Farmiga, Taissa was persuaded by Vera to star in her directorial debut as a younger version of herself in the Sony Classics, Sundance Film Festival selection, Higher Ground. This, her very first acting role at the age of 16, Taissa Farmiga was applauded for her “natural ability” and “spell binding performance”. It was following this experience that Farmiga decided to pursue a career as an actor.
Shortly thereafter, Farmiga was cast in the FX original series, American Horror Story, for creator Ryan Murphy. In the first season of the show, American Horror Story was nominated for a Golden Globe Award® and an Emmy Award® for Best Drama Series and Outstanding Miniseries or Movie, respectively. Farmiga portrayed “Violet Harmon”, the teenage daughter of the Harmon family who unknowingly moved into the infamous “murder house” where their fate was ultimately sealed. Farmiga will return in a leading role for the series’ third season October 9th.
In 2012, Farmiga completed production on the independent feature Jamesy Boy about a young street gang member who is sent to a maximum-security prison and strikes up an unlikely friendship with a convicted murderer. Farmiga plays the main character’s love interest. Farmiga also reteamed with her sister Vera in the indie dramedy Middleton about a man (Andy Garcia) and woman (Vera Farmiga) who fall in love while taking their children on a college admissions tour. Farmiga also starred opposite Mark Strong and Brian Cox in Mindscape for director Jorge Dorado. Filmed in Barcelona, the story is centered on a man (Strong) with a unique ability to enter people’s memories, who is assigned to work the case of a brilliant yet problematic teenager (Farmiga) to determine whether she is a sociopath or a victim of trauma. Mindscape is tentatively scheduled for a 2013 release.
This past summer, Farmiga was seen in the ensemble, teenage, crime drama The Bling Ring distributed by A24. Written and directed by Sofia Coppola, Farmiga was cast as “Sam” alongside Emma Watson, Leslie Mann and Katie Chang. The film is based on the true story of a group of wayward teenagers who robbed the Los Angeles homes of celebrity personalities, such as Paris Hilton, Orlando Bloom and Lindsay Lohan.
When not in production, Farmiga resides in New Jersey with her family.
