Ray met his partner Frank George when the two of them suffered as junior designers in the autocratic office of a major “starchitect”. A few years later, they went out on their own, with Ray in the role of business partner – the one who beats up the contractors and keeps them honest. But working for clients with too much money, and on projects where everyone -- from the unions to the banks to the local politicians -- has their hands out, may have rubbed off on Ray, and put his already wobbly moral compass to the test. After all, he’s in a position to sign off on massive change orders, worth millions. Who’s going to know or care if a little rolls his way for once?
