Bob Gunton has worked with some of Hollywood’s most celebrated directors, appearing in Oliver Stone’s JFK and Born on the Fourth of July; Ed Zwick’s Glory; John Woo’s Broken Arrow; and, most memorably, as the warden in Frank Darabont’s The Shawshank Redemption. Other credits include Patch Adams, Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls, Dolores Claiborne, The Perfect Storm and Lincoln Lawyer. He can next be seen in the upcoming features Live at the Foxes Den, Decoding Annie Parker and Argo.
Bob has also made a name for himself in television with extensive credits including Mission of the Shark, Wild Palms, Sinatra (as “Tommy Dorsey”), Kingfish (as FDR) and Elvis Meets Nixon (as Nixon). He has also enjoyed series regular roles on Courthouse, Greg the Bunny, Hothouse and Peacemakers, and has had recurring roles on Mr. Sterling, Desperate Housewives, E-Ring, Nip/Tuck, and most recently on 24 and Royal Pains.
On Broadway, Bob received Tony® Award nominations for his performances as the title character in Sweeney Todd and “Juan Peron” in Evita. Other credits include Big River, Roza, Passion, How I Got That Story, The Great Ostrovsky and Follies.
Bob has also been recognized for his combat service in Vietnam, for which he was awarded a Bronze Star for Valor. He is married to his former high school classmate, Carey Ann Pitts, and is father of their daughter, Yale graduate Olivia Ann.
