He can be seen in the Disney+ series Andor opposite Diego Luna as well as leading a critically acclaimed episode of Black Mirror: “Shut Up and Dance.” In spring 2025, he began production on a BBC television series filming in Dublin.Most recently, Lawther starred opposite Agathe Rousselle in A Second Life, filmed in Paris during the Olympics. Other screen work includes Ridley Scott’s The Last Duel opposite Jodie Comer, Matt Damon and Ben Affleck and Kenneth Lonergan’s BBC One/Starz adaptation of E. M. Forster’s Howards End opposite Hayley Atwell. In his first film role, Lawther portrayed young Alan Turing in the Academy Award®-winning feature The Imitation Game, for which he won the 2014 London Film Critics’ Circle Award for Young British Performer of the Year.On stage, Lawther began his work as an actor in David Hare’s South Downs in 2011 on the West End. His work since includes playing the titular role in Robert Icke’s Hamlet in New York, the late Peter Brook’s The Tempest Project at Théâtre des Bouffes du Nord in Paris and Stephen Daldry’s The Jungle at the Young Vic, on the West End and St. Ann’s Warehouse in New York.As a writer-director, Lawther made his directorial debut with the 2023 short film For people in trouble, a love story set in a time of collapse, starring Emma D’Arcy and Archie Madekwe. It premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2023 and was nominated for a London Film Critics’ Circle Award. His second short film, Rhoda, also stars Emma D’Arcy and Juliet Stevenson. It premiered at the BFI London Film Festival in October 2024. He is currently developing his debut feature.
