<h3 class="ckHeading3">Locations</h3>Thailand served as the production location for Alien: Earth, spanning both Bangkok and Krabi province in southern Thailand. “Thailand offers a unique, futuristic and visually stunning backdrop for bringing Alien: Earth to life,” Location Manager Tunyod Kulviroj proclaims.“We spent months scouting locations, blending imagination with experience while ensuring our vision aligned with the director and production designer to bring the world of our series to life,” Kulviroj shares. “Setting the series in a futuristic Thailand adds a fresh, unexpected twist to the look of future Earth.”Both the urban and natural landscapes of Thailand made it the ideal location to film Alien: Earth. Kulviroj notes, “Bangkok feels like a city straight out of the future. The striking contrast between old, decaying architecture, rain-soaked streets and bustling food stalls against sleek, ultra-modern cityscapes creates a quintessential sci-fi atmosphere.” He adds, “Beyond the city, we filmed sequences on the ocean and deep in the jungle, adding yet another layer of contrast to both the urban landscapes and the intricate spaceship sets.”

Kulviroj expands, “Our showrunner, Noah Hawley [Creator, Executive Producer, Writer, Director], fully embraced the concept of Neo-Thailand, crafting a futuristic landscape that seamlessly integrates the country’s existing exotic beauty. We filmed everything from boat journeys down Bangkok’s canals and the energy of its bustling streets to breathtaking scenes atop the city's ultra-modern skyscrapers. Beyond the urban sprawl, we captured stunning sequences on beaches, over open water and deep within the jungle. This striking contrast of locations helped shape the distinct, otherworldly aesthetic of the future Earth we created for the series.”The crew also leaned into Thailand’s weather during production. Kulviroj confirms, “Our shoot spanned so many months that we ended up filming through every season in Thailand! Rather than resisting the country’s tropical climate, we embraced it – letting the rains of the wet season enhance the neo-futuristic feel of the cityscapes, while the deep blue skies of the dry season provided a stunning backdrop for the lush jungle landscapes.”

One of Kulviroj’s favorite filming locations for Alien: Earth was Ao Nam in Krabi. It was a “secluded, remote jungle area that offered an incredible variety of exotic landscapes within a single location,” Kulviroj recalls. “From pristine beaches and towering limestone cliffs to dense jungles, mountains and caves, it provided a visually dynamic setting for our story.”The most challenging locations, however, were the crash sites, deep in the heart of Bangkok. Kulviroj explains, “The exterior crash site, set at the Neon Market – a massive parking lot surrounded by towering buildings – required us to manage enormous crowds of background extras, coordinate large-scale explosions and endure extreme heat in fully exposed areas. Meanwhile, the interior crash site, built inside an abandoned five-story shopping mall, presented an entirely different set of challenges. We had to drain a flooded basement, construct a temporary roof and ensure the entire space was safe for our cast and crew.”

“Alien: Earth was both a challenging and deeply rewarding series to work on – an ambitious production on every level,” Kulviroj reflects. “With a massive team of Thai cast and crew working alongside international cast and crew from nine different countries, the scale of the project is unprecedented.”Kulviroj concludes, “Pulling it off required seamless coordination between the locations and unit departments, producers and every other team involved. It was a true test of collaboration and adaptability – but we did it! We’re incredibly proud to have filmed the entire first season of Alien: Earth in Thailand, bringing this ambitious vision to life.”
