Shōgun

The brash son of Toranaga, Yoshii Nagakado has a blinding adoration for his father and a strong desire to prove himself. 

For the past year, Toranaga has allowed Nagakado to travel with him, hoping his son will learn that being a great samurai requires more than just brute force and honor.&nbsp;When Toranaga is summoned to Osaka, knowing that his position on the Council of Regents is in danger, Nagakado stays by his side, absorbing the complicated political tensions brewing between the Regents.Nagakado has led a relatively isolated life with few friends his own age. However, when he meets Omi, they quickly bond, both eager to make their mark. With years of training and boundless passion, the two young samurai believe they are ready to take on the world.As he begins to face off against scheming warlords, Nagakado will soon find his open and honest nature challenged.

The model for Toranaga, Tokugawa Ieyasu, was blessed with eleven sons and five daughters. In Shōgun we hear of Toranaga's first son Kazutada and his second son Nagakado. Nagakado in particular is a prominent figure in the story. However, there is no model for the character of Nagakado. The only common ground we can find with Ieyasu's sons is that some of his sons were also often scolded by their father when they were clumsy.
