Joanna Calo is a writer and mother who lives in Los Angeles, CA. Her writing credits include the Golden Globe®-winning Hacks, Netflix’s The Baby-Sitters Club, Amazon’s Undone and six seasons on the Emmy®-nominated BoJack Horseman.Calo is also the co-showrunner, executive producer, writer and director of FX’s The Bear. She is currently adapting the novel Suburban Hell for Legendary.

The youngest child of the Berzatto family, Carmy’s rise to fame in the fine dining world was astronomical. Taking over the family restaurant, and all the complications of running a small business, brought him crashing down to earth. Now "Carmy," portrayed by Jeremy Allen White, faces a new challenge: turning the restaurant into The Bear, the restaurant he and his late brother Michael always dreamed of having. His relationships come to the foreground as he attempts to be a good brother, cousin, human and boss. If Carmy thought running his family sandwich shop was hard, this year he will learn the depths of difficult as the challenges of a restaurant remodel reveal next level struggles.&nbsp;

The intractable "Richie," portrayed by Ebon Moss-Bachrach, admitted Carmy and the restaurant are all he has. Now that the restaurant is closed, and even worse, going through a rebirth, Richie will be faced with an impossible choice: evolve, or get left behind.&nbsp;

As The Bear rises, "Sydney," portrayed by Ayo Edebiri, strives not only to find her place at the new restaurant, but to be an essential piece of its creation. To do that, she’ll need to convince the people around her – not to mention herself – that she’s worthy. As she ascends the ranks, she’ll also have to renegotiate her friendships at work and figure out how to lead.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The spark that ignited in sweet "Marcus," portrayed by Lionel Boyce, was when Carmy returned to Chicago is further fueled by the creation of The Bear. He’ll travel to new heights as he starts listening to the voice inside that’s telling him he could be a&nbsp;real&nbsp;chef.&nbsp;

"Tina," portrayed by Liza Colón-Zayas, revealed herself to be a lover of tradition, and the restaurant, with Richie and Mikey at the helm,&nbsp;was what she knew. She now finds herself, a grown ass woman, struggling to sink or float in a new world. But anyone who knows Tina will tell you: she’s an incredibly strong swimmer.&nbsp;

The forever fixer of her family, "Sugar," portrayed by Abby Elliott, will have to decide what role she wants to play in the remodel of the restaurant. Where does her clan end and she begin? And what does the future hold for her if she stays entrenched in the Berzatto business?&nbsp;
