Michael Costigan

Executive Producer

Michael Costigan is a film and television producer based in Los Angeles. He is a partner at Aggregate Films, with a first look deal at Netflix. Aggregate is a production company founded by Jason Bateman and partner Michael Costigan which creates film, television, documentary and unscripted programming across all platforms. Aggregate most recently released the fourth season of acclaimed Netflix series Ozark and previously produced the acclaimed series A Teacher at FX, starring Kate Mara and Nick Robinson, and The Outsider, based on the Stephen King book at HBO. Aggregate is in post-production on the new Netflix series Florida Man starring Edgar Ramirez. On the film side, Aggregate is next out with Your Place or Mine starring Reese Witherspoon and Ashton Kutcher for Netflix, Fall 2022.

Through his previous company COTA Films, Costigan produced Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile starring Zac Efron as the notorious Ted Bundy for Netflix, which debuted at 2019 Sundance Film Festival and Dumplin’ (2018), the hit musical starring Jennifer Aniston and Danielle MacDonald for Netflix, A Bigger Splash, directed by Luca Guadagnino and starring Ralph Fiennes, Tilda Swinton, Matthias Schoenaerts and Dakota Johnson for Fox Searchlight and Studio Canal and Ghost in the Shell at DreamWorks, directed by Rupert Sanders and starring Scarlett Johansson, Takeshi Kitano and Juliette Binoche.

Costigan began his career at Sony Pictures in 1993, where he was a production executive for nine years. As Executive Vice President of Production, he oversaw the acquisition, development and production of films including Milos Forman's Academy Award®-nominated The People vs. Larry Flynt; James Mangold's Girl, Interrupted starring Winona Ryder and Angelina Jolie; McG's first installment of Charlie’s Angels starring Cameron Diaz, Lucy Liu and Drew Barrymore; Guy Ritchie’s Snatch starring Brad Pitt and Jason Staham; Gus Van Sant's acclaimed To Die For starring Nicole Kidman; Andrew Niccol's debut film, sci fi classic Gattaca; Wes Anderson's debut feature Bottle Rocket and the cult favorite Cruel Intentions directed by Roger Kumble and starring Reese Witherspoon and Sarah Michelle Gellar.

Costigan made the transition to producing movies with Brokeback Mountain in 2004. Directed by Ang Lee and adapted from the Annie Proulx short story by Larry McMurtry and Diana Ossana, the film was nominated for “Best Picture,” and won Academy Awards for “Best Director” and “Best Adapted Screenplay.”

Costigan joined Scott Free Productions, Ridley and Tony Scott's production company as President and during his seven-year tenure Costigan developed, produced and executive produced 15 films for the Scotts including Prometheus, American Gangster, Body of Lies, Robin Hood, The Taking of Pelham 123 and The Counselor from Cormac McCarthy’s original script. Costigan also produced Chan Wook Park’s acclaimed English-language debut Stoker starring Nicole Kidman and Mia Wasikowska, Scott Cooper’s Out of the Furnace starring Christian Bale, Casey Affleck and Woody Harrelson, Cyrus written and directed by Mark and Jay Duplass and starring Jonah Hill and John C. Reilly and The East starring Brit Marling, Alexander Skarsgård and Elliot Page.
