A Murder at the End of the World

“Martin,” portrayed by Jermaine Fowler, grew up in Washington, D.C., next-door to an old movie theater that would show classic and foreign films. While the other kids played outside, Martin watched movies — all sorts of movies. His own debut, made for next to nothing, had the references and rhythms of a master filmmaker. Soon, Hollywood took notice, and while he has made several blockbuster films, he wants to push the envelope of what is possible.

Career Highlights

One of Hollywood’s fastest rising young talents, Jermaine Fowler most recently starred in Hulu’s comedy The Drop, which released in January 2023. He can also be seen alongside Dakota Johnson in the comedy Am I OK?, which premiered at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival. Fowler had a breakout role in Coming 2 America starring as “Lavelle” alongside Eddie Murphy, Arsenio Hall, Leslie Jones, KiKi Layne and a host of other A-list actors. The film, which was released in March 2021, is a sequel to the 1988 hit comedy Coming to America. Up next, Fowler can be seen starring in Lionsgate’s The Blackening, releasing in summer 2023.&nbsp;&nbsp;Previously, Fowler appeared in the critically acclaimed film from Shaka King, Judas and the Black Messiah. Fowler played the role of the late Mark Clark, an American activist and former member of the Black Panther Party. In 2017, Fowler starred in and executive produced CBS’s comedy Superior Donuts, which was adapted from a play written by Tracy Letts. Fowler starred in the series alongside Emmy® Award-winner Judd Hirsch, David Koechner, Maz Jobrani and Katey Sagal.&nbsp;On the big screen, Fowler was seen opposite LaKeith Stanfield in 2018’s Sorry to Bother You, which was also directed and written by Stanfield. Fowler portrayed “Salvador” in the comedy-drama film alongside Terry Crews, Omari Hardwick, Tessa Thompson, Danny Glover and Armie Hammer. Produced by Forest Whitaker, the film made its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2018.&nbsp;In 2014, Fowler co-created and starred in the truTV sketch-comedy series Friends of the People. The following year, he starred in his own SHOWTIME special Give ‘Em Hell, Kid. His additional television credits include Crashing, produced by Judd Apatow; Robot Chicken; BoJack Horseman; the All That revival, which he also executive produced; and the 69th Primetime Emmy Awards, for which Fowler was an on-camera announcer.&nbsp;Raised in Hyattsville, MD, Fowler began performing stand-up in 2006 while still in high school. On his 20th birthday, he boarded a Megabus and moved to New York City with three pieces of luggage and a dream. As a stand-up comic, he has toured nationally with CollegeHumor and Comedy Central on Campus. Additionally, he was one half of the sketch group BodegaCat Sanchez, alongside the late Kevin Barnett. In 2012, Fowler was selected as one of Variety’s New Faces at the Just For Laughs comedy festival in Montreal.&nbsp;

While Martin has made several blockbuster films he wants to push the envelope of what is possible. He partnered with Andy’s AI assistant to write his latest project, which would require no crew to make.
