Jon Jon Briones as Gabriel in Class of '09 | FX
Jon Jon Briones
"Gabriel," portrayed by Jon Jon Briones, is one of the Class of ’09 mentors at Quantico. An extraordinarily wise teacher, he accepted early that he could make more of a difference teaching trainees rather than being a field Agent. Someone who has never sought plaudits, or recognition, he’s a man who weighs every decision and who wants to share with his trainees a sense not only of their responsibilities, but the faint possibility that they can make a radical difference to this institution.
Jon Jon Briones is a multi-talented actor that sets himself apart with his brave and intuitive performances, portraying an array of complex and powerful characters that continue to grow his career. Briones is a Filipino-American actor who was born in Quezon City, Philippines and became a United States citizen in 2010. He most recently starred in Ryan Murphy’s Netflix series Ratched as “Dr. Richard Hanover” opposite Sarah Paulson, Sharon Stone and Judy Davis.
Briones began his career in musical theater. While an engineering student in the Philippines, he helped facilitate an audition for the original 1989 West End production of Miss Saigon. He then himself auditioned and landed a role in the ensemble. He went on to be involved with various touring productions of Miss Saigon, and in 2014 he joined the original cast of the West End revival as “The Engineer.” It was this production in which he was nominated for the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Musical. He remained in the role until the production closed and in 2017, he transferred with the production to Broadway where he reprised his role as “The Engineer” in the Tony Award®-nominated production. Other theater credits include La Cage Aux Folles, Sweet Charity, The Romance of Magno Rubio and Allegiance.
Briones is no stranger to the silver screen. In 2018, he starred in Ryan Murphy’s The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story as Modesto Cunanan, father of Gianni Versace's murderer, Andrew Cunanan (played by Darren Criss), as well as in American Horror Story: Apocalypse as “Ariel Augustus.” He most recently wrapped production on Amblin’s Last Voyage of the Demeter as “Joseph.”
Briones lives in Los Angeles with his wife and two children.
Drew was set to be one of the greatest field Agents in the Bureau until she was shot by her own team of Agents while on duty, cutting short what could’ve been a dazzling career.
Murphy joined the Bureau with the hope of working in an environment that valued thoughtfulness and caution, only to find out that the ride was far more unpredictable than even a life patrolling the streets.
