Class of '09

Joe Robert Cole is a filmmaker committed to crafting smart, rich, character-driven journeys as well as creating tent-pole, world-renowned projects. Along with Ryan Coogler, Cole co-wrote the Academy Award®-nominated Black Panther, for which Cole received an NAACP Award. His critically acclaimed feature directorial debut for Netflix All Day and a Night, starring Ashton Sanders (Moonlight) and Jeffrey Wright, was released in May 2020. Cole produced the Emmy®-winning FX series The People v. O. J. Simpson: American Crime Story, for which he also received an Emmy nomination for writing the episode “The Race Card.” Cole is attached to write/direct and executive produce a new series adaptation of In the Heat of the Night for MGM. Cole co-wrote Black Panther: Wakanda Forever with Ryan Coogler, which was released by Marvel/Disney in November 2022. Cole is writing the upcoming biopic about icon Snoop Dogg produced by Death Row Pictures for Universal.
