David Rees

Executive Producer

David Rees grew up in Chapel Hill, NC, which is the inspiration for the fictional Richardsville, NC, a.k.a. Dicktown.

In middle school, Rees sang in the church junior choir while also running a shoplifting/pornography ring with his friends. After college, he had a variety of jobs including fact-checker for Maxim and Martha Stewart Weddings. After 9/11 he started a clip-art comic called Get Your War On which was passed around online before running in Rolling Stone.

While working for the United States Census, Rees started a business called Artisanal Pencil Sharpening. He sharpened more than 2,000 pencils for customers around the world.

Additionally, Rees hosted Going Deep with David Rees, a how-to show about the things you think you know how to do (e.g. How to Tie Your Shoes, How to Open a Door, etc.). It aired on Nat Geo.

Rees’ writings and cartoons have appeared in The New York Times, The New Yorker and many other publications — but never in Maxim or Martha Stewart Weddings.
