Jonathan Krisel

In addition to his work on Man Seeking Woman, Jonathan Krisel is the co-creator, writer, executive producer and director of IFC's Portlandia, starring Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein and executive produced by Lorne Michaels. For his work on Portlandia, Krisel earned six Primetime Emmy® Award nominations in the Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series and Outstanding Directing for a Variety Series categories. Additionally, Krisel and the Portlandia team won the Writers Guild of America Award for Best Comedy/Variety Series – Television in 2013 and a Peabody Award in 2011. Krisel is also co-creator, executive producer, and writer on FX’s Baskets.

Krisel got his start in television when he created the Brooklyn cable access series HyperDimensional Fortress. The show garnered the attention of Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim, and which led to Krisel’s collaboration on the Adult Swim series Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!, as director and co-executive producer.

In 2009, Krisel started making acclaimed shorts for Funny or Die, including early versions of Rich Dicks and Ed Hardy Boyz with comedian Nick Kroll. Those sketches would later become staples of Comedy Central's Kroll Show, which Krisel co-created, wrote, produced and directed in its first two seasons.
