Scott Ryan is the series creator, executive producer and writer, as well as portraying “Ray Shoesmith.” The veteran hitman is, like the rest of us, getting older. Ray’s best mate Gary, portrayed by Justin Rosniak, is reeling after his wife left him, so he’s moved into Bruce’s old digs behind Ray’s house. In addition to helping Ray out on jobs as needed, Gary has set up an increasingly lucrative homemade porn business. With Ray still playing secrets and lies with Brittany, the trusted friendship between Gary and Ray is as vital to both as ever.

Ray is the only person Gary is close to, besides Tatiana, and Gary is the only person connected to his work life who Ray can really trust.

Justin Rosniak plays Ray’s best friend, “Gary.” They’ve known each other for years, and worked together a lot in the past, but less so now.

Chika Yasumura portrays the almost teenager Brittany, who is circling ever closer to the truth about her father. When she discovers Ray has not been entirely honest, Brittany makes clear she expects total transparency. But she struggles to hold her part of the bargain - hiding her boyfriend from Ray and rejecting their father-daughter bowling dates. When Brittany gets her hands on one of Ray’s guns, father and daughter are forced to accept just how dangerous secrets can be.

Brittany is circling ever closer to the truth about her father’s professional and interior life.

When Ray’s former boss and former friend Freddy, portrayed by Damon Herriman, reappears - he quickly proves he’s as slippery as ever. Ray finds it hard to resist Freddy’s blundering charms and soon enough Ray is dispatched to do favors for Freddy. But when Freddy sets Ray and Dave up, and reveals the moral vacuum behind the charm, enough finally is enough.

He runs his business out of a strip joint, and is a guy that people go to if they need a hit put on someone or a debt collected.

Ryan penned the FX Series Mr Inbetween, a further exploration of Ray Shoesmith, again playing the character with Edgerton now directing.
