Ryan Murphy is the Golden Globe® Award-winning creator and executive producer of nip/tuck. In addition to these duties, Murphy has also written and directed multiple episodes of the critically acclaimed series. When it debuted, nip/tuck was the only first-year drama series to earn a 2004 Golden Globe Award nomination for Best TV Series – Drama. In 2004, Murphy earned his first ever Emmy® Award nomination for Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series. In 2005, nip/tuck won the Golden Globe for Best TV Series, Drama. 

Ryan began his career as a journalist, writing for such publications as The Miami Herald, Los Angeles Times, The New York Daily News and Entertainment Weekly. His screenwriting career began in the late 1990’s when Steven Spielberg purchased his romantic comedy Why Can’t I Be Audrey Hepburn? Murphy’s next effort was The WB’s Popular, a high school satire, which he created and produced. It aired on The WB for two seasons. 

Last year, Ryan directed the feature film Running With Scissors starring Annette Bening. His next project as a director will be the film Dirty Tricks, which will star Meryl Streep, and Alfred Hitchcock and The Making of Psycho with Sir Anthony Hopkins. He is currently producing his second drama pilot for FX. 

Originally from Indianapolis, Indiana, Ryan graduated from Indiana University with a degree in journalism. He now lives in Los Angeles.
