Michael Hyatt plays “Cissy Saint,” Franklin's mother. Pragmatic and hard-working, Cissy raised Franklin primarily on her own, working for an L.A. slumlord to pay the bills. Simultaneously desiring a better life for Franklin and yet selfishly wanting him close to home, Cissy will be forced to reckon with her role in Franklin's decisions, as his choices test the boundaries of her love.
Michael Hyatt was born in England to Jamaican parents. At the age of 10 she immigrated to the United States with her mother and two siblings. Living in Maryland and later Washington, D.C., Hyatt slowly adjusted to the American way of life. She went on to study acting at Howard University for her undergraduate degree and continued at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts for her Master's degree.
Before Hyatt's work in film and television, she enjoyed memorable performances on stages throughout the country, most notable is her experience on Broadway in the critically-acclaimed Ragtime.
Hyatt’s numerous television credits include The West Wing, The Wire, The Kill Point, True Detective, Ray Donovan and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.
Hyatt will soon be seen in the feature film Dara Ju opposite Aml Ameen, which premiered at SXSW 2017 and was nominated for the SXSW Grand Jury Award. Some of her other film credits include Nightcrawler with Jake Gyllenhaal, The Trials of Cate McCall with Kate Beckinsale and Nick Nolte in Fame and Pushing Tin.
She currently resides in Los Angeles.
