Caroline&nbsp;Moore&nbsp;is Senior Vice President of Production &amp; Development for Joel Fields and Joe Weisberg's&nbsp;production company at FX Productions. Previously,&nbsp;Moore&nbsp;served as Vice President of Development for Sarah Jessica Parker's&nbsp;Emmy®-winning&nbsp;production company, Pretty Matches, where she developed and produced HBO's comedy series&nbsp;Divorce.&nbsp;Prior to that,&nbsp;Moore&nbsp;produced multiple films for television with Dan Wigutow. She is based in New York.

"Alan Strauss," portrayed by Steve Carell, is a therapist mourning the recent death of his wife while straining to reconnect with his estranged son. Effectively sleepwalking through life, everything changes when he meets an enigmatic new client.&nbsp;

On the surface, "Sam Fortner," portrayed by Domhnall Gleeson, seems like a shy, likable young man — someone you wouldn’t look at twice. Underneath his quiet exterior lurks a dangerous unpredictability that he tries to manage through therapy with Dr. Alan Strauss.&nbsp;

"Candace Fortner," portrayed by Linda Emond, is a thoughtful woman attempting to reconcile the abuse in her past by reading self-help and psychology books, including one written by&nbsp;Dr. Alan Strauss. While close&nbsp;to her son, Candace struggles to balance her unconditional love for him with a sense of right and wrong.

"Beth Strauss," portrayed by Laura Niemi, is the recently deceased wife of Dr. Alan Strauss and a beloved cantor at her community’s reform synagogue. Beth struggled with her relationship with her&nbsp;son Ezra, especially as he started a family of his own.&nbsp;

"Ezra Strauss," portrayed by Andrew Leeds, is the adult son of Alan and Beth Strauss.&nbsp; He grew up as a member of the reform Jewish synagogue, but as a young adult made the decision to become Orthodox. While Alan tries to maintain a relationship with him and his grandchildren, Ezra always seems to push his father further away.

As Alan’s former therapist and mentor, "Charlie Addison," portrayed by David Alan Grier, often prods Alan by asking uncomfortable but critical questions. He serves as both a guiding light and a coping mechanism for Alan in his new reality.&nbsp;
