The Riches

Dmitry Lipkin was born in Moscow, but moved to Louisiana at the age of ten as a Russian refugee. Not knowing a word of English, he was tossed butt-ignorant into the world of southern American jewry where he promptly experienced flag football, Hebrew school and crawfish. He learned English by turning into a young, friendless couch potato and watching American TV. (He later became popular and was able to speak English with elan.) After an extraordinarily brief period in college where he planned to major in Diplomacy and International Relations, Lipkin luckily discovered writing.Prior to The Riches, Lipkin was a playwright living in New York City, where he founded a theater company known as The Playwrights’ Collective, which produced big plays in small rooms. His work includes Cranes, produced by the New Group, Baton Rouge (Ensemble Studio Theater), Moscow Nights (A Contemporary Theater), and The Wanderer (O’Neill Theater Center, The Flea). He’s a recent alumnus of New Dramatists, a Manhattan Theater Club fellow, and holds an M.F.A from NYU. Lipkin now lives in Los Angeles with his wife, Colette, and daughter, Tennessee.

About

Cast and Crew

"Wayne Malloy," portrayed by Eddie Izzard, yearns to live an extraordinary life. After bringing his traveler family to suburban Eden Falls to take over the lives of a dead yuppie couple, Wayne has proved himself adept at impersonating lawyer “Doug Rich,” and charmed his way up the corporate chain to become a partner at Panco. Wayne is driven by his aspirations to steal the American Dream and now to score “the big con,” but is it all worth it with mounting odds and resurging ghosts from his past? Not to mention evidence that his marriage and family could fracture under the stress?

"Dahlia Malloy," portrayed by Minnie Driver, is a fireball. After spending two years in a jail cell, Dahlia has taken on the matriarchic role of “Cherien Rich” with gusto. She believes that her family must stick together in order to pull off the life as “The Riches,” so she’s upset to see that lies that brought them to Eden Falls have begun to take their toll on her family. This discovery leads Dahlia on a quest for truth and honesty that is at direct odds with her husbands’ ambition.

"Cal Malloy," portrayed by Noel Fisher, is Wayne and Dahlia’s oldest son and the only Malloy to truly question and ultimately reject life as a buffer. He is convinced his family has taken the Riches scam too far and that their traveler souls are paying for their lifestyle. Cal's beliefs ultimately draw him back to his traveler roots.

"Di Di Malloy," portrayed by Shannon Woodward, is Wayne and Dahlia’s clever and outspoken teenage daughter who has become increasingly aware of her own abilities and advantages in the buffer world. While deeply upset by the strain buffer life puts on her family, she can’t help but excel in school and attract friends. This dichotomy leads to adolescent rebellion that draws from both the traveler and suburban teenage girl in Di Di.

"Sam Malloy," portrayed by Aidan Mitchell, is the youngest and quietest of the Malloy clan who takes the time to observe everything around him. Fiercely dedicated to his family, but also intrigued by life as a buffer, he manages to find an equilibrium that the others can not in Eden Falls.
