Career Highlights

Born in The Gambia and raised in Spain, Jacob Mendy’s road to Wrexham was an unusual one when he signed for the Club in August 2022. Having grown up in Spain, and briefly representing Atlético Madrid C, Mendy moved to England in 2017 to play non-league football, combining his playing career with a series of part-time jobs, including separating rubbish for a waste management company, a cleaner and working on a building site.The sacrifices Mendy made paid off, as he earned a succession of transfers up through the English football pyramid. He first came to the attention of Wrexham supporters when he played for National League Club Wealdstone and scored against the Red Dragons in 2020.Mendy – who speaks four languages: Spanish, English, Portuguese and Manjak – also played against Wrexham for Boreham Wood before his arrival in North Wales. His first season with Wrexham ended with a first international call-up, where he joined the Gambian national team for their fixture against South Sudan in June 2023.

Jacob Mendy is a WAFC defender for the Red Dragons Football Club.
