Dying for Sex

Shannon Murphy is an award-winning theater, television and film director from Australia. Murphy has most recently shot and executive produced FX's Dying for Sex. Before that, Murphy directed and executive produced the opening block of Polly Stenham's Dope Girls for Bad Wolf and the BBC, which premiered in February 2025.Her first feature film Babyteeth, executive produced by Jan Chapman and starring Essie Davis, Ben Mendelsohn and Eliza Scanlen, premiered in main competition at the 2019 Venice Film Festival, where it was nominated for the Golden Lion Award. In 2021, Murphy earned a BAFTA nomination for Best Director for Babyteeth and won the Kering Women in Motion Award, presented annually at the Cannes Film Festival to recognize promising female talent. Babyteeth was also nominated for and won several international awards, including a Best International Independent Film nomination at the British Independent Film Awards and winning nine awards at the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts Awards, including Best Direction and Best Film.Murphy directed two episodes of Killing Eve for BBC America, a block of The Power for Prime Video and an episode of the award-winning comedy DAVE for FX. In the feature space, she is developing an adaptation of The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie for Origin and Searchlight Pictures, and Migrations for SunnyMarch and Anonymous Content (with Claire Foy attached to star).
