Stephanie Koenig stars as “Gwen Sanders,” Evan’s best friend and fellow teacher at Morrison-Hensley High. She’s especially supportive of her long-term boyfriend, Nick, who recently lost his job and begun hand-digging a pool in their yard. While everyone else sees this as a cry for help, Gwen thinks it’s a great idea.

Career Highlights

An actor, writer, director and producer, Stephanie Koenig is best known for her roles in the Apple TV+ limited series Lessons in Chemistry opposite Brie Larson and the Paramount+ limited series The Offer opposite Miles Teller. In Lessons in Chemistry, Koenig played “Fran Frask,” whose character delighted audiences with her snarky know-it-all wit, often standing in the way of Larsen’s character, while in The Offer, she portrayed real-life casting executive Andrea Eastman as she helped assemble the iconic cast of The Godfather. Koenig will next be seen as one of the leads of FX’s series English Teacher, for which she was also in the writer's room. Koenig previously booked one of the leads in CBS’s big comedy pilot Wilde Things (aka Big Bad Wolfes) opposite Julie Bowen and recurred on Max’s The Flight Attendant opposite Kaley Cuoco. She had a lead role in the feature film Sick Girl alongside Nina Dobrev and Wendi McLendon-Covey.Behind the camera, she wrote, starred in, directed, produced and edited the action-comedy A Spy Movie, starring Koenig and her frequent collaborator Brian Jordan Alvarez. She is also responsible for the hit short-form series Stupid Idiots, a TV adaptation of which was previously in development at Paramount with Michael Sugar and Jonathan Krisel attached to produce. On the feature side, she is currently developing a horror-comedy tale based on her real-life experience as a competition dancer in her youth.Hailing from Michigan, Koenig got her start at a young age in dance competitions, eventually getting her acting degree from Michigan State University. She is also a UCB and Groundlings alumna, frequently collaborating with various stalwarts from both.When she is not on set or posting funny sketches or full-length features on YouTube, Koenig can usually be found spending time with her husband and their two dogs.
