Wright has forged a unique path as an artist, through his work as a director and writer in contemporary and mainstage theatre and as a film actor. In the last 12 months, the Australian born Wright has gained international recognition for his work – including a Critics' Choice Award nomination for his leading role opposite Elisabeth Moss in Jane Campion's series Top of the Lake for Sundance Channel/BBC.

Wright completed filming alongside Jason Clarke, Josh Brolin and John Hawkes in Baltasar Kormakur's Everest for Working Title/Universal, a film about the "Into Thin Air" climbing disaster, which is set to be released in 201 5. His other film work includes the critically acclaimed independent film Van Diemen's Land and portraying murdered journalist Brian Peters in Robert Connolly's award-winning Balibo which premiered at the 2009 Toronto International Film Festival.

He has played lead roles with Sydney Theatre Company, Melbourne Theatre Company and Malthouse Theatre and directed productions for a number of the Australian mainstage companies including Belvoir St. Theatre. In 201 1, he portrayed the title role for the Malthouse Theatre/Sydney Theatre Company production of Baal, commissioned by artistic directors Cate Blanchett and Andrew Upton, which garnered critical attention.

In 2012/2013, he produced and directed Doku Rai (you, dead man, don't believe you), a production created over four months on an island off the coast of East Timor with local companies Liurai Foer (King Bin) and Galaxie. The production has been presented at numerous prestigious festivals. Publicly and critically-acclaimed, Doku Rai was nominated for Production of the Year and named one of the Best Productions of 2012/2013 by numerous bodies.
