Shawn Ryan, the Creator and Executive Producer of The Shield, was born and raised in Rockford, Illinois, where he was influenced by the writings of David Mamet, Tom Stoppard, Barry Levinson and everyone who worked on Cheers.
Ryan has an overall production deal with Twentieth Century Fox Television Productions, in addition to The Shield. Other projects with Twentieth include The Unit, a one-hour drama for CBS on which he teamed with David Mamet and Women’s Murder Club, an ABC pilot written by Elizabeth Craft and Sarah Fain. Ryan earned a joint degree in Economics and Theatre from Middlebury College, where he first began writing plays. His other television credits include Angel, Nash Bridges and Life with Louie.
